The concept of free trade allows the markets to allocate resources to their most efficient uses, while concept of environmental protection seeks to manage and maintain the earth's resources efficiently. Conflicts arise where the same resources are subject to both trade efforts to allocate and environmental efforts to manage and maintain. This conflict must be reconciled, as both trade and environment are too important to let conflicts persist. Yet many environmentalists still believe that the economic system, including trade, is the enemy and many trade and development experts still believe that the environment is not a fundamental part of the economy. It is necessary to reconcile this conflict by adopting legal measures so as to achieve and ensure sustainable environmental development and long-term economic prosperity. In this regard, it is necessary to study and review the provisions of already adopted trade agreements relevant to environmental concerns, international environmental agreements and Indian and other country laws dealing with friction with those trade provisions. This kind of information and study helps in developing an understanding towards environment and trade related issues which in turn reduces or eliminates such friction
